A Present for Myself!
Brewery: Ommegang Brewery
DiscoveryFirst learned about this brewery during a bootcamp at the CIA. This may sound intriguing, like a clandestine training mission involving beer, but it wasn’t. I’m referring to a cooking bootcamp held at the Culinary Institute of America.
I enjoy cooking quite a bit, and was very excited to have an opportunity to take a weeklong class in Hyde Park, NY. I could wax poetically for quite some time about this, but my blog is focused on beer and not food, so I will need to post my thoughts about the CIA on my soon to be available blog: blog.hitchensstew.com. A joke, this takes up enough time and energy.
Back in 2010, I took a four day Bistro Bootcamp class, and one of the lectures was about “Beer ‘n Stuff” and it was presented by John Fischer. We reviewed a range of alcoholic drinks, including Cider, Pernod, a couple of wines and the Hennepin from Ommegang Brewery of Cooperstown, NY
The brewery founder sold Ommegang in 2003 to Belgian brewer Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat, brewers of the world-renowned Duvel Golden Ale. As such, I wouldn’t consider this a craft brew, but it’s very different from other beers I’ve been drinking. I’ll have a Belgian on occasion, but sadly it’s few and far between.
In this gift pack are three belgian style ales that I’ll be reviewing in the coming days. They are:
- Three Philosophers - Quadruple Ale
- Chocolate Indulgence - Belgian-Style Stout
- Hennepin - Farmhouse Saison (Same as I had in the Bootcamp)
I’ll be reviewing these three Belgians in the coming days, so please stay tuned. If you have any questions about the CIA, please don’t hesitate to ask.
